Solid wood or parquet floors are good candidates for scratches as soon as they are installed. To get rid of superficial scratches, you will need a marker for repairing wood in the same color as your floor. You can buy them in most stores that sell building materials. Once you have it, follow the steps below:

  1. Remove all dust and dirt by washing the area in and around the scratch with a soft washcloth soaked in water.
  2. Test the cursor  in a place that cannot be seen to make sure it is the right color.
  3. Paint the scratch with the tip of the marker until it is the same color as the rest of the floor.

Shallow scratches in laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is a cheaper alternative to wood flooring and can be easily scratched. Therefore, it is important to have a strategy to address these errors. This is where this solution comes into play:

  1. After thoroughly washing the area with the scratch,  use a floor repair marker to fill it in. These markers usually come with a set for floor repair.
  2. Wash off excess wax  and smooth the area with a damp cloth.
  3. Let it dry for 24 hours.
  4. Take some wood putty  (it also comes with the sets)  and fill in the  scratch until it is level with the floor.
  5. Wash off any excess putty with a cloth or rag.

3. Deep scratches in solid wood floors

These cases are a little more serious. It is still possible to at least partially improve the situation.  To do this, you will need a wood filler in the same color as your floor. Then follow these steps:

  1. Wash  the damaged area with a damp cloth. Rinse and repeat the process to leave it completely clean.
  2. If your floor has an extra layer of polyurethane or varnish, wipe the area with a solution to remove it. Then wipe the area again using a damp cloth and allow it to dry.
  3. Apply some wood filler with your index finger and spread it over the damaged area. Do not worry if you have applied too much; you can remove the excess later.
  4. Let it dry for at least a day.

If you do not feel like using this method or if you are afraid of damaging your floor, you can always call a professional to do it for you. Still, you do not have to worry – the procedure is simple.
