5 tips for reusing tires

Reusing tires is a great way to recycle old tires and give them a new life. Also, it’s the perfect excuse to tidy up the garage a bit and take advantage of the extra space to store other things.

Damaged or worn tires usually go directly to the rubbish heap. But just because they are not good enough for their original use anymore, does not mean that they can not be useful for other things.

Have you ever thought about what you can do with some old tires? We are sure that these incredible ideas and the ways someone has used them will surprise you. It’s just a matter of letting your  imagination  run wild and visualizing what you can get out of reusing tires. Think about it and find a way to use old tires!

5 tips for reusing tires

1. Coffee table

This practical idea is extremely easy to make yourself. All you have to do is use a deck or two as the bottom of the table, and then place a plate of glass, wood, or whatever you want on top. You can also decorate the tires.

Some people decorate their tires with fabric so that they will match their furniture. Others choose a more  rustic look, by tying twine around the tires.

  • To use fabric, measure the tire and cut out a circle in the material you want.
  • Attach the circle to another rectangular piece of material that is wide enough to cover the entire surface of the tire.
  • Do the same on the inside.

If you want to be more practical and make it easy to wash the table, attach a zipper or some buttons to the area where the inner lining and the edge of the rectangle meet. Should you choose to use twine, make sure you have enough to cover the entire deck and possibly the wooden board that you have placed on top as a table top.

By following these simple instructions, you can get a beautiful and functional coffee table or outdoor table.

2. Remember the children

If you live in a house that has a spacious backyard or a garden (with a tall tree), you can recreate the classic memory set that we have seen so many times in movies, and that they often have in kindergartens and schools. This is a very simple idea, and your kids will love it, while also learning about reusing tires and other things.

  • You just need to clean the tire thoroughly and then you can paint or decorate it.
  • Afterwards, hang it from a strong branch using strong elastic or rope.

It’s that simple! You have made your own mind!

3. Flower pots

Another way to reuse tires is to use them in the yard.

How? It’s simple: you just need to turn them into flower pots.

For example, if you want to plant a tree, take good care of it so that it does not grow sideways, fall due to the wind (or be bothered by the roots being dug up by your dog), or, among other threats, be trampled on by the children when they play.

  • Plant your tree and place it inside a pair of used decks.
  • By doing so, you can protect it and water it from above, through the holes in the tires.

In addition, when you turn the pots into pots, their robustness helps  to keep the pressure on the soil inside the pots, which means that the plants’ roots will stay inside the pots.  There are several ideas on how to reuse tires this way. For example, if you place them directly in your  yard  , you just need to paint them. The earth will act as an inner base.

If you want to reuse the tires in an area with a different type of ground and be able to move them around, you need to  make a bottom to prevent the soil from falling out. You can also change the tires by cutting off pieces, for example by cutting off small areas where you can place individual plants.

4. Containers for gardening or garbage

Our fourth tip for reusing tires is great if you have three of them. This way you can put them on top of each other  and sew them together with a strong thread or other material so that they stick together.

  • Afterwards, cut out a circle from a wooden board (by following the diameter of the tire) and fasten it under the tires with glue (this will be the bottom).
  • Then you can paint the tires with fun  colors, and when you are done, you can put on a lid on top.
  • Then you’re done! Now you have a large, beautiful container for tools or other things!

Remember that if you decide to make a  garbage can, you  should have a garbage bag in it when you use it, so that it is easy to empty when it is full.

Stairs for steep hills

If you live in a rural area surrounded by hills, this is a convenient option for you. It will make it much easier to go up and down.

  • It’s just a matter of finding where you want to make this path, and then setting up the stairs.
  • Place a tire for each step and fill them with the same soil you dug away to insert the tires.
  • When you fill them, it will keep them securely in place.

This staircase will be very resistant to climate change .

Now you know some tips for reusing tires and know why it is so wise to do so. Try to reuse the items you have stopped using, and get some serious points in both saving, creativity and craftsmanship!
